Beschrijving

It was dubbed ’the scramble for Africa’. In the nineteenth century, European nations raced to seize territory in the vast continent to their south. The prize was exploitation of Africa’s abundant resources.

But the colonial era sparked a popular interest in all things African. Exotic plants were imported to Europe. Lions, rhinos, elephants, giraffes – all were displayed in European zoos. So too were Africans themselves. Yes, you read that right. Shockingly, there really were human zoos in European capitals, where African men and women were shown off in recreations of their ‘natural environment’. So that Europeans could pay to gawp at them.

Fast-forward to the middle of the twenty-second century. England has, by natural demographic means, become a nation in which people of African and Asian heritage predominate. Human zoos are just a footnote to the history of the colonial era.
Until Makena, an ambitious young Black woman working in the entertainment industry, decides to bring them back. But with one key difference. For this time, the inhabitants of the human zoo will be white. And first on the list for humiliating display before a jeering public will be Makena’s beautiful white colleague – and hated rival – Freya.

This is Freya’s story, a young woman who seems to have it all, until suddenly she has nothing. Just the life of a living exhibit, put on display in the skimpy costume of a cave girl. And now able to indulge her secret kink. Indeed, required to. For although she longs for a white boyfriend, she is a natural submissive to men of colour.
